Thanks Chas, I appreciate your help.  I do have Quicktime Pro, but it
wouldn't play the DVD or the copy I made of it on my HD using MacTheRipper.
So far I haven't gotten my $30 worth.  However, VLC is a sturdy app, and
after several fits and starts it played my movie, subtitles and all.
