A friend used a second monitor with his SE/30 (15 years ago) for graphic work and he kept the artwork on the second monitor and the palettes on the SE/30. The second monitor acted as if it was an extended area to the left (or right) of the built-in monitor - the mouse worked seamlessly between the two. That was in the days of OS-6 and OS-7.
