Ahem..........
3: If you have the install CD for your iMac and it has OS 9 on it, AND
you can install just OS 9 (as compared to having to do a full hard drive
restore of everything), then you can safely use it to install OS 9 onto
your hard drive. You won't hurt OS X. The fact that you lack the original
OS X disk for you iMac should be of no issue. The versions of OS 9 and OS
X are not "linked". Install OS 9.2.1 onto your current hard drive that
has OS X.2.8.
Stating that the lack of the original OS X disk is no issue is a bit short sighted. Here, at my house, we have 2 sets of OS X 10.1 install CD's which came with the OS 9 installation CD. In addition to that, we have 2 sets of Jaguar installation CD's and a Panther installation CD. I know Apple isn't like Microsoft when it comes to 'ONE COPY OF OS PER COMPUTER' but he must have bought at least one! Lacking the OS X installation CD only leads me to believe that he 'acquired' it from a friend and put it on his Mac. In my book that's defined as theft.
OK, expecting all of you to flame me for this......but the facts is the facts.
Tim Exterminate all rational thought.
