I have read a lot of rubbish about piracy keeping the poor people like Bill Gates poor.Any country that allows its citizens to be ripped off by a licensing system that allows him to blackmail the world by a windows system largely stolen from apple needs its head read. The big telephone companies and oil tycoons were brought to heel but not Bill Gates and his supporters. Until we have true open source systems we are going to be saddled with the continuing abuses of technical advances. I am not a developer of software but an ex farmer mechanic and love to share any of the few things I have developed (a few mechanical devices) with any one free of chage. Australians as whole have a history of virtually giving away many of the things we have poineered (For example the aircraft black box). Personally I would love to see a different system. The development cost of the bigger software providers are often written off fully tax deductable allowances. The assertion that the big corporate players would reduce the price of software is ludricus- any big enterprise spend huge amounts of time and effort on establishing prices on what the market will bear. Vic.
