Delayed response, I know. Next time You forget your password, you can use your OS X install disk to reset your password. If the Administrator remembers his, you don't need the install disk. He can log in as "root" (I'll forward instructions on how do do that if you want.) and change any other normal account holder's password from the root account.

os 9 was no longer there at all. Is there somewhere I
can get OS 9.2 or classic? I still have the OS 9.2.1
my>iMac came with, but I don't have the original OS
X disk.. I probably should have installed the 0S 9
first and then OS X right? Can I download 'classic'
somewhere? thanks for your patience and any advice.

If you have OS 9.2.1 on disk, you don't have a problem. Just install 9.2.1 then download from Apple the free update to 9.2.2. And you should be back in business. You don't need the OS X disk to put classic back on your machine.

However, when installing OS X on a computer for the first time, it is probably best to back up all your important data, reformat the HD, install a fresh copy of 9.2.2, which is the latest and final version of Classic, then install OS X. Hope this helps.
