You are absolutely right about this.

We have a 500 MHz DV SE iMac in my youngest daughter's bedroom that is just
incredibly rock solid running OS9.1 and OS 10.2.8 on the partitioned HD and
I picked it up off eBay when it was just five months old for almost EXACTLY
50% of its price when new.

This is pretty well the only bargain Mac in the house except for my wife's
B&W 450 G3, my other daughter's 1 GHz G4 eMac, and my own Turbo '040
enhanced NuBus 40 MHz 68040 Mac IIci, my Sonnet-powered 800 MHz G4 PCI
Daystar Genesis MP 800+, a NewerTech-accelerated G3 PCI 9600, and my 1 GHz
G4 iBook.

Of these the most recent acquisition was the 9600, which I picked up off
eBay just last month for just under $60.00, which represents about 1.4% of
its $4,200.00 retail value when new.

The only better deal than that was the Daystar Genesis, which I understand
was about $13,000.00 when new. A fellow Mac-user rescued two of these when
they were discarded two years ago by a local TV station and I got it for
free.
