My friend's laptop (running Windows XP) is having problems connecting to the internet. She was using a wireless connection, but she can now no longer connect to the internet. After trying to adjust various settings, with no luck, I plugged the computer directly into the cable modem we are using. Still no luck. I've decided that reinstalling the system software might work, but as she is unable burn CD's, we tried hooking her laptop into my eMac (running Panther) via ethernet. I turned on Windows Shaing in System Preferences on my eMac and it said at the bottom of the window that windows could connect by connecting to \\mmyip\myusername\. I went to the start menu on her laptop and chose run. I typed in \\myipaddress\myusername\ like it said in Sharing Preferences, and it let me get to my home folder on the eMac via her computer. I started copying stuff to my computer, but it went very slowly. Thinking it should be going very quickly considering it was a direct connection, I disabled the wireless connection (thinking that was slowing it down), and the transfer of files stopped, meaning it was transferring through the wireless connection, instead of through the Ethernet cable.
So the question is, why did it not use the Ethernet cable, and how do I transfer files from Windows XP to Panther via Ethernet cable?
I would appreciate a response as soon as possible, my friend is getting impatient :)
