Oh, I have also found that some USB devices can cause a Mac to not power up properly, so you might try disconnecting all USB devices and see if that helps. Of course, if it does and the unit fires up, you will have no way to shut it down again except to try holding the power button on for a few seconds, or pulling out the AC power cord, since you won't have a keyboard or mouse to do a normal Shut Down. But at least you will have started to isolate the issue and you can go from there to figure out exactly WHICH USB device is causing the problem.
Of course, if none of this works because no matter what you do you are getting no response at all to the power on button, then I would think you have a hardware problem, like a blown power supply or something. There are pdf format service manuals available on the web, and you could try locating one of those and seeing if it has a set of diagnostics steps for this condition, if you are technically inclined.
