Is there anyone using Microsoft Virtual PC for the Macintosh ?
Which platform are you running it on, G3 ? G4 ? or G5 ?
Which version of Windows are you using ?
Win98se on an iMac G3/700. VPC 6.
I try the Virtual PC approach, and want to know as much as I can before forking out the cash. I would like to know if it can handle the workload of various CAD software, as once again, there isn't a Macintosh version of same.
There are plenty of Mac CAD programs that can read the standard PC CAD program output (DWF, DWG files).
In my experience, Virtual PC is great for DOS-based and "regular" Windows programs, but TERRIBLE for anything like games that requires a 3-D card, since VPC doesn't emulate that.
I'm told that the new version is 30% faster than the old version, marking the VERY FIRST TIME *ANYTHING* from MS is faster than the previous version. :)
(probably due to MS shifting the redrawing work to OpenGL, btw ...)
I should think that the new version of VPC would be able to run MS CAD programs at adequate speed, though of course you should really use a Mac-native CAD program if possible. As for Microsoft Train Simulator, I have no idea of the requirements so I couldn't say. If it requires a 3-D card, forget it.
