Yup. It's just the same as opening the message when you're disconnected.

A spam story: you know how spammers often include random words in the subject line, such as "Make $$$ today!!! ocelot" etc? I was glumly deleting junk mail one day when I saw a most unfortunate subject line:

                                Impress your lover with your penis  fracture
