Yep. Any one can do it. Just insert your DVD in the drive. Open Disk Utility. On the left panel select your DVD Disk. Select the "New Image" button in the upper part of the window. Select where to save your image when asked (anywhere) and accept the default settings...
For the custom image, honestly I havent done it but you could do some research in the web or your macs help...
