It is simply embarrassing to not be able to open a word processing
document on a high-end computer. Even low and high end Dells come
with word processing software!

All Macs -- high-end, low-end, and everything in between -- come with TextEdit, a surprisingly powerful but basic word processor that can even read and write Microsoft Word documents.

Comparing a Mac to a Dell is like comparing a Ferrari to a Yugo. They're both cars, and that's about all they have in common. The differences between them -- and in particular the quality of users each attracts -- makes a world of difference.
