Just to make sure my mind was not failing, I had a friend e-mail a Word 97 document, I also used some Word 2000 docs I already had. If you either right click (two button mouse) or control click (Apple mouse) use the "open with" menu to select either Text Edit or AW. They opened right up, on all three Macs we have here. Not sure why it does not work for you? FWIW Text Edit was significantly faster than AW at opening M$ Word documents.
Ok. Just retried. I donno what I was doing before... Probably trying to open the files from within AW, I guess. Opening them with the contextual menu to TextEdit works great!
