I thought we were discussing technical issues here...
Don't be silly! Any excuse to have a debate about piracy on this list! Its one of its many "quirks". ;)
Isn't this a bit weak that one has to force quit iTunes because of this ???
No not really, since the computer is infact doing a lot of complex calculations when encoding a CD to AAC or any other format (I use AAC, I will say AAC, replace it with whatever format you use.) You notice that you might have a 32X CD read speed, but it only does it at about 7.5X. If there is a corruption on the disc, it will throw a lot of the computers calculations and the computer will think "TF?!". If anyone has Digital Freeview television, you notice how atmospheric distortion on an analogue signal just makes it fuzzy while with the digital the image comes out all blocky with colours completely gone to lunch, then the squeaks and sk-sk-sk-skipping of the sound. Its the same thing. If the computer was analogue, it would simply accept it and move on, but its not. Like when i record a record into the iMac with the line in, if the record skips, it records the skip.
The only thing that could be done better is some king of function in iTunes code that handles such an event, kills the import, clears the buffer, informs you of the corruption and gives you the option of trying that track again.
