Some people advocate giving a program three times the
memory it says it requires. So for example, if
Internet Explorer says that its preferred memory (in
the 'Get Info' box) is.... 9939k, then bump that up to
say 30,000. I have my IE5 usually set to around 25,000
and it works fine most of the time. One of the reasons
I hate Netscape is the fact that it requires something
like 50,000 which is mad.

Other than that, I'd suspect a corrupt preference file
with some of these programs, or an extension conflict.
So try trashing the preference file of the program
giving you grief, and check any 'read me' files
related to that program to see if there are any
reports that tell you it doesn't get on well with a
certain other program you may have installed. I've got
a problem with Toast right now, cannot get it to work
at all, driving me slightly mad.
