It should be fairly trivial to hack a Mac Mini to use a tray load iMac CRT. The CRT is essentially a unit of its own (the power runs thru the main PS, but the connection is independant). It would really be nothing more than using an RGB to VGA adaptor to connect the Mac Mini to the tray load CRT. However, this anticipates that you have a tray load that powers up enough to give power to the CRT. If you remove the logic board, I don't think there is a direct way to hack the power supply to feed the CRT. It passes thru part of the logic board assembly. So to fully hide a Mac Mini into a tray load shell would take a little more work. Although, honestly, with how small it is, I'd almost expect that you can dismantle the Mac Mini, install its DVD Drive into position for the tray load, and then just float the logic board on top of the tray load logic board. Run the power cable for the Mac Mini in thru the back, and with short extensions, reroute all other connections to the side in place of the tray load.
