Hi, since some time now i have been getting unasked porn e-mail, i
have not given it importance, just deleted and that's that, but since
i asked for a removal from their e-mail list, it has been like i have
asked to receive more and more, i have been saved several times when
the hole family is gather around the TV and im on the mac and i open a
innocent looking e-mail, and its this garbage, i have a graphite imac
600mhz. running 10.3.8, what can i do to filter this stuff????

This gives me an opportunity to expand on a few of the ideas I've used to fight spam, so here's some more tips.

1. Never, NEVER respond to spam. You've just told them that you actually READ their stuff AND that you're email address is valid, AND that you're willing to investigate mail from people you don't know. Might as well tattoo "sucker" to your forehead.

2. Turn OFF the HTML rendering capabilities of your email client! I can't stress this one enough. The junk mail comes with little tracer images that call back to the spammer's server. IOW, just opening this email for a second alerts the spammer that you're looking at it. Apple's Mail program (and most others I would think) have a way to turn off HTML rendering, and in Mail at least when you DO get some mail from some idiot you know that uses HTML, you can turn the HTML back on for that message only. This plus aggressive filtering really cuts down on the spam.

3. If you're using AOL, use the "This is spam" reporting button AGGRESSIVELY. Every time. For weeks. It will eventually help.

4. NEVER use your main email address to sign up for anything online. Use a substitute or "alias" email like the kind .Mac offers.

5. If possible, set up an automatic redirect to [EMAIL PROTECTED] That's the Federal Trade Commission's spam reporting address.
