I had that drive in a PC, then my BnW, now in an external USB2 box lol. So it's seen the test of time. It has so far surpassed all my expectations. After all the moving around it should be dead, but keeps on going without one issue.

Last I knew, the CompUSA house brand (which can often be had after rebates for cheap prices) was Maxtor drives. I believe they mark the outside of the box as to who makes the drive. But all the CompUSA ones I've ever bought have turned out to be Maxtor drives. I've also used Western Digital without issue, as well as Seagate (and many others that don't exist any more). I can't think of any drive makers currently selling drives that I would avoid. Any of the bad companies have vanished over the years. A My rule of thumb on buying new drives... get whatever is cheapest that fits your needs.
