>Our local Staples store is selling >a 120 GB Maxtor, 7200 rpm, 8 MB cache, for $59.94 this week.
Hey, I just bought that drive this morning (have to replace a dead one in a Dell... Dell wanted $70 for a replacement 40 GB drive... I laughed). > My experience with a lot of Maxtors has been very >good. I too have had good luck with Maxtor drives. Last I knew, the CompUSA house brand (which can often be had after rebates for cheap prices) was Maxtor drives. I believe they mark the outside of the box as to who makes the drive. But all the CompUSA ones I've ever bought have turned out to be Maxtor drives. I've also used Western Digital without issue, as well as Seagate (and many others that don't exist any more). I can't think of any drive makers currently selling drives that I would avoid. Any of the bad companies have vanished over the years. A My rule of thumb on buying new drives... get whatever is cheapest that fits your needs. HOWEVER, I recommend highly against buying used drives unless you know what you are doing and know what you are getting into and have the tools to properly test them. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
