Try throwing a SCSI drive in there, that'll make some more noise :)

If the room is quiet enough, and you're using a convection-cooled
slot-loading iMac (or a Cube), you will hear the disc(s) spinning
(mostly bearing noise, actually) in even the newest 7200 IDE hard
drives using liquid bearings. Fan noise in most computers covers the
noise made as the disc(s) spin, except when the heads read and write
to the disc(s). I can't even hear the read/write activity in my G5
iMac's 250 GB Maxtor, it's so quiet -- not even on startup before the
fans kick in.

In older and slower-rpm IDE and SCSI discs that use grease-packed
ball or roller bearings, the noise level is much higher. Some old
full-height SCSI drives scream like carrier jets on takeoff. I've had
a couple that were so unbalanced they caused an unattended external
hard drive case to walk right off a desktop, thus solving the noise
problem.
