If you find a solution to this, let me know. I have a Rev A Bondi that
does the same thing. All I have to do is type mac-boot and it boots fine,
but for some reason it always goes to open firmware instead of booting.
I'm pretty sure it reports the same error as you see.

I do have Tiger running successfully on a 333 with 256 MB of ram. I did
the install by removing the hard drive and putting it in a firewire case,
and then installing from DVD on an iMac DV.

However, two things to note about my setup. 1: I've only had it running a
few days, so I can't give any real world report on how well it works,
beyond saying it works and I haven't noticed any issues. And #2, although
mine is a 333 iMac base unit, the processor has been replaced with an
iForce 500 MHz G4... so for speed reports, mine isn't exactly in the same
league as yours will be (but at least Tiger didn't balk at the fact that
it was a 333 motherboard)

Also, something to note for your install. Tiger won't install on the 333,
it reports that it is not a supported machine. So if you try to install
over a network it probably won't work if the installer is physically
running on the 333 (and since the Tiger installer causes the machine to
reboot as the first step, you won't be able to install it to the 333's
drive mounted on another machine over a network). So you may have to go
the route I did, and remove the 333's hard drive and do it via firewire,
or physically place it in a supported machine (I had a firewire case
handy so I went that way, I would not have puchased a case just to do the
install, I'd have just swapped the drive in my iMac DV instead)
