It's like waiting for someone to pull out of a parking space so you can
take it.  That occasional 10-20 seconds is EXCRUCIATING!!!!!

It should be mentioned that this issue appears to be resolved on the Rev. C iMac G5 (the new thinner ones) and the other new hardware. We have at 17" rev. C in our shop and notice NO issues with delays or recognition at all, either from a boot or waking from sleep. This could possibly have been resolved via software, so make sure you're up to date.
