Think of iPhoto as an application for photo management, not necessarily as an application photo editing. I use an external editor for photo editing, but I still use iPhoto for photo management. My point was that iPhoto is MUCH better than the filesystem for photo management and viewing. I have no experience with any Photoshop product, so I cannot comment on that.
