I have three digital cameras. Don't know what you mean by "lingo technicality". The photos I work with are already on my hard drive by that point. > The smart feature is organization. > iPhoto is NOT an editing program although it does > have some basic > editing abilities: That's why I don't use it. > iPhoto is a library to keep your photos, think of it > as keeping your > negatives from your 35mm days. Well, I do the organizing myself, as I have done for the last 14 years. It's all the importing and exporting that bothers me with iPhoto. I happen to already know how to manipulate photos to suit my purpose, be it email, web, etc. > > I use Photoshop 4.0 and 5.5 and I'm not sure what > you are implying by > this following comment > > Photoshop does include a > > separate browser that shows thumbnails of entire > > folders full of photos, regardless of where they are > > stored on the drive. Are you saying that PS locates and > groups all your > photos into folders, if you have been careless > when/where saving them? No. Photoshop CS (8.0) comes with a photo browser. You select a folder from a tree-style list window on the left side and it shows you large thumbnails of the photos inside the folder you selected. You can just double-click on them and they open right up in Photoshop. And you can easily move photos to another folder and otherwise organize them without having to go back to the finder. It has a ton of other features that I haven't even tried out yet, like automated batch renaming, contact sheets, creating a web Photo Gallery.... > In MacOS X, if you put photos you've downloaded or > received as > attachments in the appropriate user's Photo folder, > iPhoto will show > them. True, but I find Photoshop easier to use - for my purposes. iPhoto just doesn't work for what I need, but Photoshop does. And newer versions come with a photo browser, which is what the original poster was seeking: to be able to view entire folders of photos without having the hassle of importing and exporting. There are several similar viewer programs available through versiontracker.com, however I have not had the opportunity to check them out.
