I just did Control-click on a folder of photos.  While
a contextual menu did appear, there was no sub-list
with thumbnails as you describe.  Just a list of
various finder actions, such as Open, Get Info, Move
to Trash, Duplicate, etc.  No thumbnail list under any
of the sub-lists.  In fact, there are only two
sub-lists:  Automator and Stuffit.  This is in OS
10.4.4.
