Am I missing something in how the finder handles photos.

Have reviewed Dale's original question and the responses to date, and would like to offer the following ...

To simply view and perhaps do some really basic manipulations of photos, I have seen some folks who use the Preview application which comes as part of Mac OS X. It is tucked away inside the Utilities folder that is inside the Applications folder, but I have a Preview application icon in my Dock. Unfortunately, I cannot simply drag a folder full of photos to the Preview icon. I have to do something where I can view the list of photo files inside the folder, at which point I can just use the Select All command and drag those icons to the Preview icon. I know it sounds ugly, but it does take longer to describe the process than it takes to do it.

When Preview opens, it presents the files as a series of "large thumbnails" down the right side of the window, with whatever image has been selected appearing in a much larger window on the left side. This photo can be manipulated in some very basic ways like cropping and rotating.

I happen to have GraphicConverter installed on my Mac, and while trying to figure out if there was any process that could be applied directly to the original folder rather than having to first open the folder and deal with the multiple image files themselves, I discovered that a right click on the folder does present me with a drop down menu which includes a "GraphicConverter > Open in Browser" command. Selecting this command does indeed launch GraphicConverter and present all the image files that are in that folder in a browser kind of window.

Thought you might be interested in trying these just to see if they approximate what you've seen in the Windows side.

Personally, I find that my particular needs are best served by dumping my photos into iPhoto and going from there. But I can certainly appreciate that others might need other approaches.
