No solution to your photo viewing issues, but it reminded me of this app I downloaded the other day: <http://www.lny.mine.nu/Pages/MilkyWay/MilkyWay.html> When you click on an image file, MilkyWay pops up a window with a thumbnail and some options, (rotate, view fullscreen, etc) I only tried it for 10 minutes.
