And what do your logfiles show for this period? As V- mentioned,
I have seen someone sitting there pounding the daylights out of the
SMTP server with RCPT TO's and it slowing things to a grinding
halt. One guy sat on ours for about an hour one night before I could
whack him out at the router. To this day that block still exists.
There has to be some sort of activity going on behind the scenes.
Take a look at Task Manager or if you have the NTResKit run
tlist > proc.txt at the command line and examine what processes
are running. If you see an abnormal amount of SMTP32 processes
then something is definitely happening.
Examine the logs carefully for those time periods also and see who
is possibly camping on your SMTP port.
