I think you are confusing sales with installed base. Old Macs never
seem to die. People continue to use what they consider usable in the Mac
world. I have customers out there with Motorola 68k based Macs that I
can't do much for 'em since they run some very old version of Mac OS.
Now a Dell, if the CD rom hiccups and the whole machine goes in the
garbage and they sell another one (and MS sells another copy of Windows
as well). I have a friend who has has gone through three Dells and has
one Power Mac and one Power Book. He considers the Dells disposable, but
his Macs will go in for repair.
I wouldn't believe it unless I saw it.
