Need for growing resources??? If this isn't an option, you'll pretty much have to get rid of Microsoft-compatible products altogether. Since when have you seen any Microsoft OS or app get smaller, more efficient (or cheaper) over time? I think it's a given that most large companies that write Microsoft compatible software care more about ease of use and features than speed, efficiency or even good code writing. Symantec is probably the worst example of this philosophy. Every year their software becomes more and more bloated, hogs more resources and doesn't really come with any real improvements to speak of.
