I would say you need to think about multiple machines anyway instead of trying to do everything on one. One thing goes wrong and you're completely hosed.

Need for growing resources??? If this isn't an option, you'll pretty much
have to get rid of Microsoft-compatible products altogether. Since when have
you seen any Microsoft OS or app get smaller, more efficient (or cheaper)
over time? I think it's a given that most large companies that write
Microsoft compatible software care more about ease of use and features than
speed, efficiency or even good code writing. Symantec is probably the worst
example of this philosophy. Every year their software becomes more and more
bloated, hogs more resources and doesn't really come with any real
improvements to speak of.

So, let me get this straight, if we upgrade we are moving to a more

resource hungry situation that we have with 8.2?

And the benefit?

It seems that there is the ever-growing need to add things to a server.

Sniffer, etc so taking more of our

resources is not the way to go. I've got 2 gigs of RAM but I also want to

run a few other things like some

web sites and database software. Not too happy to hear we are moving up

the resource consuming ladder

rather than into a more efficient environment.
