It would certainly be convenient to be able to modify the
administrator flags via the command line (e.g. via ADDUSER).
Yet, I understand Ipswitch's position that allowing setup of
the "Host administrator" and other flags via the command line
could result in security problems. Hypothetically, setting the
"Host administrator" flag via ADDUSER would not require
an administrative password yet would allow an account to
change passwords for everybody on the domain (and delete
users, etc.). It is not hard to think of situations where this
could degenerate.
Possibly a compromise solution would be to only allow it for
the "root" account of the domain ? Generally whoever has
"root" access should probably also have administrative rights.
Another compromise solution would be to only allow changing
the administrative flags if the "root" password is entered. This
would allow setting up administrators other than "root" only if
they know the "root" password.
One flag that should probably not be modifiable via the
command line is "Imail System Administrator".
