For the extremely high rate of create/delete file and append/truncate file 
activities on 1000's of files typical with Imail's file operations, I'd 
recommend Diskkeeper or equiv running continuously low priority, to keep 
the Imail spool and mbx partitions from excessive fragmentation, esp for 
those people who are planning for 10's or 100's of 1000's of user accounts.

I'm going with Dusty's guess about a mbx file locking conflict being the 
cause of "open append fail" in my logs, meaning an smtp process tried toto 
append a msg to the mbx file while it was already open/locked by another 
process.  This wouldn't be a file system failure.
