Yes, in that situation, the client should error on the delivery attempt and
show that error to the user (unless the server did accept the message, but
that does not appear to be true form the log you sent). Maybe a client
'setup' related issue. Set client to 'log' its actions and server responses
and then check the log after this delivery attempt.
Do you have, in the SMTP Security, the 'refuse null senders' enabled? This
can keep your system from accepting many 'postmaster' email messages (they
often come from <>. This would include any local postmaster messages.
