I can understand that scott, but again it does not really enter
the equation because Imail reads HTML just fine. People are going
to get HTML mail and the virus scanners will have to be put to
work no matter what.

Yes if imail supports html in web messaging, then more html mail
might get created and yes the entropy on the net may increase a
bit. I admit I am a selfish bastard and I don't care. I certainly
don't care for unilateral disarmament :)

By blocking htlm messages from Imail web messaging, my mail
servers are disarmed. Others are not.
I guess that's the crux of it.

People like html in web messages. They really like it. Wen they
send a picture of their new baby, their new house or their fat
rear end through then net, they want the image to be seed when the
email is opened. As a marketing person, i do as well. I can sell
10 times as much if the picture replaces 1,000 words.

Other web clients offer this and I thing that we need it to remain
competetive.

Honestly, if Imail's target market is simply Corporations for
intranet mail (I don't know maybe it is) then I can understand
their reluctance. I mean, then why bother.

However, if people developing web portals, isp services, or major
desitnination websites make up a significant part of their market,
then they are going to have to provide this functionality.

You may think I am crazy, but I guarantee that they will add it
eventually or they will have some serious issues.

Remember a phrase from the Godfather, "your enemies always grow
strong on what you leave behind?

It's true.

My perspective may be different from most folks on this list. I am
only 20% developer, the rest is pure marketing. My specialty is
market segmentation and developing competitive strategies. When I
feel like it I work for market research and consulting companies
who bite off more than they can chew and need someone to step in
an fix the mess (no i'm not looking for work.. don't need it..
don't want it..).

I mention this in the hopes that some of the grumbling "i don't
need it so who cares" people might wake up a bit and see the big
picture and do some forecasting of trends.

Imail needs to fix the following to remain competitive (or offer a
2nd larger product that supports them):

(1) Multiple pop access to consolidate email addresses
(2) Scalability issues (multi server solutions)
(3) Separate mail servers from web servers from list servers for
powwer
(4) Provide limited html capabilities in the web client
(5) Keep Ron very happy or financially invest in HKSI

The above is no secret and it can't happen overnight, but it needs
to happen, cause right now IPSWITCH's enemies are growing
stronger :)

Cheers

Jeff

>Not only that, but the HTML messages have to be scanned for
viruses (we can thank Microsoft for that!). If the message does
not use HTML and does not have any attachments, it can bypass the
virus scanner. But, if it has an HTML segment, it's got to be
scanned.
