Yuri,
I've tested a lot of electronic hardware in my days and the likelihood of
failure is greatest in the early life (about the first 170 hours of running)
then it tapers off (reaching lowest failure after about 1 month of running)
and only goes back up again after about 10 years. This is called the
'bathtub' curve. So just because you have new equipment, does not mean the
likelihood of failure is low, just the opposite, unless it has been running
for more than about 7-15 days (which yours now has) or has been running in
an accelerated life test (higher ambient temperatures cause faster aging).
All that being said, I think I would agree, the problem is more likely your
methods of adding users and their data. That the problem was noticed shortly
after the last update, is not necessarily meaningful, unless you had checked
the same things before the update. But it is probably as good a correlation
as we will be able to find, after the fact.
Somewhat glad to hear that the Init LDAP did clear up the problem, and
sympathize about all the work needed to get back to the prior state. As for
backup, definitely a good idea, just make sure you have good data to
restore. Unless you are making many changes, constantly during a single day,
daily backup is probably sufficient.
Daniel Donnelly
