If I may offer an inexpert opinion. With an HTML based Email accessed
through a web interface you have an active code being displayed in an active
page. The issue would seem to me to be one of isolating the HTML in the
Email from the HTML in the page displaying it. Then of course there are any
number of appi's and scripts beyond simple HTML that might be included and
may or may not effect the displaying page. That is with out even
considering any coding that might be intentionally hostile (script Kiddy
stuff, viruses, etc.). The browser would have to interpret virtually two
pages to be displayed simultaneously. The Hotmail answer is to offer
anything beyond the basics as an attachment and still there are some
messages that crash browsers.
If I were Ipswitch I would look to allow at least a minimal amount of
HTML coding in Email and then add more capabilities in the future. the tags
for   and <BR> are pretty basic and shouldn't be that difficult to allow
for.
