I know of one definitive answer for one client. This client uses Qmail
however and not Imail. In this case AOL was accepting messages and giving
no error messages to the Qmail server. But the recipient never received the
messages. It turned out that AOL's spam filter was intercepting these
messages and discarding them before delivery to the client. So the messages
were accepted and there was no error but AOL's spam filter was triggered for
reasons not given.

My client's mail admin worked with AOL staff and had the problem resolved in
a few days. My client was very complimentary of AOL's efforts.
