What fixed it im my case...and don't ask me why!!! Was:
1. Added a reverse record for the mail host server name. (example:
mail.mydomain.com)
2. Made sure there was a imail domain named the same as the mail host
imail - a domain for mail.mydomain.com. This is the first domain in imail.
The ip address of course, is the servers ip address.
3. Made sure the mx record for mydomain.com points to mail.mydomain.com
I tried various combos and changes of the above, but only when all three
were synched, AND I had rebooted a couple of times..did things work.
Notes:
In my case the dns server happened to be on the same server as that imail
server. However, my name server doe not have delegated authority for
in-addra.arpa for the mydomain.com ip address.
Because of this, even though i added a reverse in my dns,,it did not take
affect. Queries for reverse would never reach my dns.
My upstream provider had to add it to his dns as he is the in-addra-arpa
authority for the ip address in question.
Of course there is an "A record for mail.mydomain.com and that points to the
ip address of the server.
Of course the mail.mydomain.com in imail is an ip address domain..not a
shared ip domain.
On another note, when i switched my imail to use my old dns server for
resolution...everything worked ok - that was before i made any of the above
changes. I am still curious about why that would be..but will just let it
all simmer on the back burner the mind for a few days and see what cooks up.
