I'm *still* working on the problem of invisible
mail, and right now I'm beginning to wonder about IMail.
Invisible mail is mail that arrives at the mail server, but fails to download to Outlook Express, and yet provides no error message. I have determined that invisible mail fails due to problems with the header when using the IMAP protocol. For example, messages addressed To: "Bednarz, Ben" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> will fail to download to an IMAP account setup in Outlook Express. My suspicions have centered on Outlook Express as the culprit because I could cause or cure this problem depending on how the header is written. However, I have new evidence that the problem may be IMail's fault after all. Here's why: All of my tests have been using our IMail server (4.07 running on Winnt 4.0). However, I just created a test IMAP account with a free service called www.myrealbox.com. This service supports IMAP, which allowed me to test the problem and compare with my IMail results. I have NOT been able to reproduce this problem using myrealbox.com. Invisible messages sent to my IMail server will download just fine via myrealbox.com. Specifically, myrealbox.com does not seem bothered by the display name "Bednarz, Ben", that I used in the example above. If the problem occurs only for IMail, then I guess it's an IMail bug. I just don't understand how or why. Because this new testing suggests a problem with IMail specifically, I am hoping one of the Ipswitch techs that frequent this discussion group will comment. How about it guys? Ben |
