Len,

Here is what I found out... NOTE: This only applies to versions prior to
7.x

1.) If using an external database for users, the PRIMARY domain must still
use the IMail database for SMTP Auth to work for IP-less (shared-IP)
     Virtual Hosts.

2.) If using an external database for users, and all hosts have their own IP
the PRIMARY domain can use any database and SMTP Auth will work.

3.) In Version 7.x you can use any database for your PRIMARY and all the
others, including IP-less (shared-IP) Virtual Hosts, will work with
SMTP
        AUTH.

Here is the kicker, you still have to get SMTP Auth WORKING once you have
configured your IMail server as above. I have confirmed all the settings:

1.) I am using v6.06 with the Hotfix, SMTP is the march 01 version.
2.) My primary domain is using the IMail database
3.) The error with the missing > is still a mystery as the client that
was having it happen was sending mail to his other accounts so
I know he did not type it in wrong.
4.) My customers are still unable to AUTH!!!

CPU Usage - between 8 and 12 %
Memory Usage - not even half the machine's total memory
