The mail clients configurations must be set up properly as well this to
perform SMTP Auth
 with virtual host. Maybe the following examples will help:

Netscape settings for Virtual Host "without" an IP address:
email address: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
pop user name: userID%virtualhost.com
outgoing mailserver user name: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Netscape settings for Virtual Host "with" an IP address:
email address: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
pop user name: userID%virtualhost.com
outgoing mailserver user name: userID

Outlook settings for Virtual Host "without" an IP address:
account name:  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Outlook settings for Virtual Host "with" an IP address:
account name:  userID

Eudora settings for Virtual Host "without" an IP address:
return address:  [EMAIL PROTECTED]
login name:  userID%virtualhost.com

Eudora settings for Virtual Host "with" an IP address:
return address:  [EMAIL PROTECTED]
login name:  userID
