IMail to be non specific. Where do I start???? Should I list what
works?

Really though, its not that bad, the part that kills me is the
support. I'll share some of my experiences with you so you dont
think I'm just an ipswitch basher.

We are an ASP that hosts a custom app for behavioral healthcare
companies and one of our customers was suffering from serveral
organizations merging together to form who they currently are
leaving serveral email systems and namespaces behind. We decided
to offer them an ssl encrypted, web based messaging system to
replace all thier pieced together systems in-house. I did a good
bit of research and chose Imail(Mistake #1)basen on features and
added HKSIs killer webmail(Redemed Myself). To insert a quick
thanks to Ron @ HKSI, I have never seen anyone more helpful. He
monitors these lists and always jumps on problems his clients are
having. If Ipswitch as a company could provide 1% of the support
for their users that Ron provides himself they would be 10x better
as a company.

Now, enough free advertising :-)

This put us in a position where Imail was being used as a
corporate email soulution(Mistake #2)by 800 users all day long
instead of what i believe is the normal, non encrypted "Hotmail"
style use.

My biggest problem was with intermittent ssl failures which
require restart of web messaging(search the archives...its not
just me), thus causing all emails in progress to be lost....people
really hate that(Especially the CEO).

If you were really interested I could forward you the email
conversation that went on for months with ipswitch support with no
conclusion and i finally gave up on them. I figured my buisness
could benefit from an SSL accelerator(nothing more than an
encrypting proxy) so I bought one to take the load off of Imail.
Other than adding $10k cost of Imail it solved that problem. There
are more inexpensive ways so I cant blame Ipswitch, however when
someone sells a feature...shouldn't it work, granted everyone has
bugs but a respectable vendor would at least make some attempt to
fix a flaw in a major sales point like the SSL function wouldn't
you think?

The second biggest thing(which is still growing instead of getting
better) is all the new bugs that come with the fixes. I need 7.05
to fix the tmp file problem and attachment with spaces problems,
but apparently 7.05 has a new feature that makes you have to
restart web messaging occasionally to even view attachments. I
think I would rather not be able to attach more than to not be
able to read any, so I'm scared to upgrade.

What about the forwarding the wrong message bug....thats a good
way to get somebody fired or in a lawsuit.

Lets see...

Theres also the "unlimited user" version that has a 1024
concurrent user limit. Why call it unlimited? what good does it do
to allow 10,000 mailboxes if the 1025th concurrent user is going
to be locked out? (this is strait out of the mouth of their tech
support when I was asking about settings and timeouts)

Theres also the iwebmsg.ini file which apparently is the file
tweaked by the admin program for web messaging, funny how changes
i make in the admin program aren't happening in that file, wonder
if anyone else has that problem...if so their server isnt set up
the way they think it is.

If your really interested I could send more.
I like what IMail is supposed to be, but with all the problems if
I had it to do over, I wouldn't do it at all.

The thing that really baffles me is that Ipswitches reputation,
reliability, and level of support are going down and the prices
are going up. If they continue like they have since 7.0 came out
I'll be looking for a going out of buisness sale in a couple years.

Jamie
