The problem is that the mail client has to "remember" what
messages have been downloaded. Occasionally for reasons not
totally clear to me the mail client "forgets" and then downloads
all messages again.
This can happen to any mail client but it happened more to me with
Outlook and more after I upgraded to Outlook XP. I no longer use
Outlook.
I finally set up a 2nd mail account on the same server and forward
all my primary account messages to it. Then I delete those
messages after 2 days.
