I have a question about this practice.  Why would you block the whole range without verifying that the entire range is used for spamming?  Our company only has 5 static IPs.  We don't need any more than that.  But if a spammer were to use another IP in the block our IPs are in, we become an innocent victim.  I thought anti-spam efforts were to prevent email users from becoming innocent victims, of spammers.  Now I see that I need to protect our company from the anti-spammers.  Its like being a nuetral country in the middle of a war.   Now I realize that its easier to blacklist the entire IP block, but its even easier to shut down your mail server!  And both will protect you from a spammer on the IP block.  So I suggest you do the later and save the rest of us!  This is sounding very much like AOL, et al.  And I have to think you know how I feel about there gustapo practices.   Todd -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Rick Leske Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2002 2:11 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] Help with getting unlisted on anti-spam DB We Block the whole range of ip's too... and yourmain.com is listed in the spam database at 53.43.28.66.relays.osirusoft.com as a know spammer; so until yourmain.com has a differnet ip address or they get taken off thier list they will continue to be bounced to the ole trash can.   ~Rick -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2002 12:21 PM - MGMT.TV To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [IMail Forum] Help with getting unlisted on anti-spam DB Hi Everyone,   We just moved to a new provider this month and have found ourselves listed in the SPEWS, XBL, and spews.relays.osirusoft.com lists due to some idiot who uses the same provider and that sent a bunch of spam a while back.  It looks like the osirusoft.com list is a duplicate of the SPEWS list.   I've talked to our provider and they claim to have removed the offending content and have been able to get themselves removed from all the other lists that they were in due to this guy, but they said that they have been trying for months to get removed from the SPEWS list with no luck or response.  I've sent a message to the news group that the SPEWS site says to, but I'm not holding my breath.   It seems that SPEWS doesn't bother blocking the offending IP, they just block the whole darn range!  Does anyone else have a problem with this?  I mean this idiot has like 5 IPs, but they block the whole 66.28.43.0/255 range with no regard for anyone else.   To me, this is the worse kind of spam police tactics, more like spam stormtroopers.  Don't get me wrong, I HATE spam, especially the porn kind that my kids get!  But to block everyone because of what one idiot did is just plain WRONG.   Do a lot of you use SPEWS?  If so, why would you use a service that blocks 99% legit email because of 1% of abuse from a different IP?   Thanks,   Mike Achenbach
