Jason,

Imail should try each MX server it finds from dns and if it can't
connect to any of them it should report the mx connect fail in the
logs and just leave the message queued for the next queue run.  It
tries an A record if no MX records and sometimes it tries an A record
even if there are MX records.  I don't see why it would attempt a
local delivery last though.

Could you post some log snippets showing this?
