Thanks for the reply.  Although the speed symptom sounds similar, my CPU
utilization is near zero.  That's why it's so perplexing.  If *SOMETHING*
was eating up cycles, I could track it down.  But nothing seems to be
hogging any resources.  It's just plain slow.
