SMTP (1948) ERR undeliverable 552 Requested action not taken: exceeded size limitah, ok. kill the DATA in mid-flight AND "5xx don't come back". everybody's happy.
I still think NOT accepting the full 10 Mb or 100 Mb file completely so you can politely say 554 at the very end of complete recpetion is a wrong tactic since attackers could seen 1000's of 100 Mb files. The tactic that accepts each 100 Mb file in totality just to be able to return a 554 is bent over and will be violated.
The receiver must truncate the session at the limit point. sending a 554 of course, hoping the DATA sender is also listening.
