Before we get started I am guilt of installing the patch but it
isn't a big deal as I am also comfortable with the CLI or web interface
for administrative issues. Also, I did make an attempt to understand
what I was patching before saying "I Agree."
I wonder how many folks who complained actually needed to
install the MS hotfix. What I probably should say is; how many folks
who were on this list actually take the time to read and understand the
appropriate Q-article associated with the corresponding hotfix before
telling Microsilly that they "Always Trust Content from Microsoft." Of
that group how many ranted and raved for ipswitch to do something? Man
if that isn't an oxymoron I don't know what is.

Don't know who wrote this but my response to both is... Why not? Is
your infrastructure that inadequate that the only measures of security
are reliant solely on Microstinky?
Microsoft is not obligated to test their patch with every third party
software made for windows. An argument should be made tha Ipswitch is
not responsible to the degree that most people here say they are. The
primary burden lies with the end user and no one else. So a couple of
options are a test box or keeping good backups and restoring to a pre
security patch state, or simply going to Add/Remove Programs and doing
the obvious.
Since this only affected the administrative console for the most part
then it presented a golden opprotunity for some of you mouse addicts to
learn alternate methods of administration if you weren't already doing
so.
For those of you who truly care about security then why are you relying
on Windows Update? If your I-mail box is beind a firewall and only the
appropriate ports are open: POP IMAP SMTP Web etc... Then you should not
have much to worry about. We all know that Windows is infamous for
security holes and that is why one must not rely solely on uncle Bill to
keep them safe.
The lesson here is that Windows Update often times breaks more things
than it fixes... Don't believe me ask Citrix Meta Frame just how much
fun they have with Windows Update.
Kudos to the ipswitch folks for developing the patch so quickly
though...
