I don't think you can get an SSL issued on a fake domain, at least not with Verisign or Thawte. They're pretty strict on things like that, you have to provide a state issued business license or letter of incorporation, among other things like a phone bill and a form the domain owner has to sign stating they have the authority to request the SSL. I've never attempted to use an SSL with IMail, but have done plenty in IIS. In IIS you can create the request on the same domain, just don't import it until the old one expires. I just talked to some one that has done SSL renewals for IIS. What they have to do there is create a new web site, then create the CSR there. When the TCA is ready, that is imported over the existing one on the correct site. So it seems that Ipswitch needs a way to allow for the creation of a new CSR like you describe. This also brings up a related question. In IIS, every website can have its own cert. But what if you have a IP based domain on Imail that wants SSL but does not want the host name to appear anywhere?
